Share an API key

An API key is a long password made for a system, not a person. Sharing one is the other way to give the integration team access. If you can, use the way we prefer instead, which needs no key at all: Add us to your Eventbrite team.

What must I never do with the key?

Never email it, and never paste it into a chat message, not even to us. Paste it only into your chapter portal. If you sent it anywhere else by mistake, tell us straight away without repeating the key, and we will help you replace it.

Where do I find the key in Eventbrite?

   Sign in to Eventbrite

   Use the account that manages your chapter's events.

   Open Account settings

   You find it in the account menu.

   Open Developer links, then API keys

   Eventbrite lists your keys there. If you have none yet, we will help you create one at your Discovery Call.

   Copy the key

   Eventbrite may show more than one code on that page. If you are not sure which one to copy, ask us before you copy anything.

The names of Eventbrite's menus can change. If a step does not match what you see, email onboarding@eochapterhubspotrollout.com and we will walk you through it.

Where do I paste it?

In your chapter portal, at the Discovery Call stage. Choose to paste an API key, paste it in and send it. That moves your chapter to the next Events stage, API Information Submitted.

After you send it, the portal shows only the last four characters. Nobody can read the key back from the portal, you included. Until we have checked that the access works, you can replace it with a new one from the same place.

What happens to the key after that?

Our server encrypts it, which means scrambling it with a secret that is kept outside our database, before it is saved. Only our team can open it, to set up the access, and every time someone opens it, that is recorded. We delete our copy once we have checked that the access works. The page Is this safe? says more.
